Description of ~~ WINDY DUNE ~~ This property is located in Shelby, MI, a small town about equidistant from Muskegon to the south and Ludington to the north, about ¼ mile south of the Little Point Sable Lighthouse, which is a landmark usually shown on maps. The area surrounding the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline is largely an agricultural one, with acres and acres of cherry, apple and peach orchards, many fields of strawberries, blueberries, and vegetables, especially asparagus, and corn, both sweet and feed types, as well as several large family-owned dairy farms. The cottage is secluded within 24 acres of privately owned woods and has 900 feet of pristine beach. It is accessed by a 1/2 mile long gravel private road which winds through the woods, past 2 other cottages, and culminates in a large sunny meadow where this cottage is sited. The cottage has 3 bedrooms, 1-1/2 bathrooms (the half bath is upstairs) and it sleeps a maximum of 8 comfortably (with 2 in twin-size bunk beds). Three steps down from the entry-level is a large open concept living space with a large seating area, dining table and chairs for 6 people and a fully equipped all-electric kitchen. The seating area has a cathedral ceiling, a mid-century fireplace, and many windows that flood the space with lots of natural light. Recently partially renovated, the cottage has a washer, dryer and dishwasher, and is only a set of steps away from Lake Michigan. All new flooring in the living room and kitchen complements the original hardwood floor in the master bedroom. Large picture windows in the living room and master bedroom provide stunning views of the lake. Wifi is included. The huge master bedroom has a king-sized bed, full-sized couch, and sitting area. This comfortable home is a short walk from the shores of Arcadia Lake and has a boat dock for your use. For shoreline fun, take the group down the half-mile stroll to Arcadia Beach on beautiful Lake Michigan. Heathlands Golf Course is 10 minutes away, Crystal Lake Golf Club is 15 minutes away, and Crystal Mountain is 26 minutes away with two courses and a water slide. For an eventful and diverse golfing experience, you could practically try a new golf course every day! As for fishing, deep water close to shallow water in nearby Lake Michigan brings seasonal runs of brown trout, a few chinook, and coho salmon. October and November are prime times for brown trout and steelhead. The former state record brown trout (34 pounds, 6 ounces) was caught there in 1984! Manistee County has multiple fishing tournaments each month from May through September. Access to Lake Michigan near Arcadia can be difficult but a 1997 grant from the Great Lakes Fishery Trust allowed for the creation of a 10-foot by 40-foot platform on Arcadia Lake near Grebe Park. There is parking for 15 vehicles. For more exploring, take a drive on the beautiful M-22 loop, recently voted "America's Number One Best Scenic Autumn Drive" by 10 Best and USA Today. This stretch of road is pretty in every season and will take you to wineries, art galleries, and numerous small towns along Lake Michigan's coast full of friendly Michiganders! Towns along the loop include Arcadia, Manistee, Onekama, and Frankfort, among many others full of possibilities. This traditional cottage, still owned by the original family, was one of the first built on Channel Lane in the 1930's and overlooks the channel that connects Lake Michigan to Pentwater Lake. It is 5 minutes from the beach and five minutes from the village green. The cottage was structurally updated in the late 80's with the second floor addition added in the 90's. This is a large cottage with 4 double bedrooms, one small single bedroom, and a den with a futon. The cottage can sleep 11 comfortably and is a great option for two families to share. There are two queen bedrooms downstairs with a full bath and two bedrooms (one with queen bed and one with twin beds) upstairs with two full bathrooms. In addition, there is an open plan A frame living room and dining room, kitchen and second living room/den. The cottage is tastefully decorated. There are two televisions (flatscreen with cable and older tv for dvd's and games) and cable and internet is provided. The kitchen is well equipped with all cooking supplies. There is a washer and drier on the 2nd floor. There is a patio area outside with furniture, gas grill and picnic table. The cottage is located on a double lot and there is plenty of room for parking and for playing in the yard but it is not fenced. There is also close access and a view of the channel allowing visitors to fish and view boat traffic in and out of Pentwater. We prefer that tenants bring their own linens (sheets and towels) but can make other arrangements for an additional fee if necessary.

This is still the family cottage, so it is homey and well-loved; not stark and impersonal. If you are looking for granite countertops and new furnishings, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a comfortable, clean, quiet place to reconnect with your family, friends and nature, you have found it. This cozy cottage will remind you of summers spent with grandparents, playing outside all day and board games at night. Two-hundred-feet of Lake Michigan beach is shared with two other cottages. There is always plenty of room for everyone to have their own area. (The lake level was very high in 2019 and many cottages in the area had no beach; we were very lucky and had a big, white sandy beach.) A large lawn separates the cottage from the path to the beach. There is no view of the beach or lake from the cottage; it is about 80 yards away. We are located between Silver Lake and Stony Lake -- a fantastic summer playground! The sand dunes of Silver Lake are a 10-minute drive away. There's paddle boarding, jet skis, pontoon boats, dune rides, horseback riding, and several golf courses all within 15 minutes. If you are bringing your dune buggy or other ATVs to play on the dunes, there is a very large parking lot at the cottage so you are all set. As there is no washer/dryer on the property we ask that our renters please bring their own sheets, towels, and beach towels. We have 2 queens, 2 singles (bunks), and one full. All necessary silverware, cookware, plates, glasses, etc. are included. Cell service is very spotty; you will probably have to drive up the road to get cell service. At this time there is no wifi. We have a landline which can make 911 calls only.

It has been recently updated with 16 foot sliding glass doors and transom windows, creating a wall of windows to enjoy the sites and sounds of Lake Michigan! New flooring, kitchen updates including a dishwasher and a brand new A/C system have also been added. There are 2 levels in this home that have their own separate entries, providing a unique ability to have more privacy if vacationing with other families. Each level has 2 bedrooms with comfortable queen-sized beds, a full bathroom with showers, a kitchen, and a comfortable living room and dining area. The upper dining room table will comfortably seat 8 people, plus there are 3 bar stools at the counter. The open concept living space allow for everyone to be together, even when preparing meals in the kitchen. All bath towels, kitchen towels, bed linens and pillows are provided. Beach towels are not provided. Hand soap and bar soap is provided for each bathroom. Dishwasher soap, liquid dish soap and hand soap is provided for each kitchen. 2 paper towel rolls and trash bags per kitchen and 2 toilet paper rolls per bathroom are provided to get you started. There is a washer/dryer on the lower level, just bring your own laundry soap. When you step out onto the spacious deck, you'll hear the waves and see the gorgeous, panoramic views of Lake Michigan. Relax in the comfortable deck furniture, or take a short stroll down the boardwalk towards the lake. Swing in the large wooden swing, or enjoy a cup of coffee in the 2-seater Adirondack chairs/table overlooking the water. We have a low bluff for easy access to the lake. In addition to our 60 feet of lake frontage, there is an additional county beach available for your use. The Oceana County Public Beach is directly North of us, where warm water from Silver Lake exits into Lake Michigan via Silver Creek. This creates a great place for the kids to play in the warm water! Little Sable Lighthouse is just a 5 minute walk to the South, or you can walk to the North and have 4 miles of Silver Lake State Park's beautiful beach all to yourselves. If you're looking for something to do out in the water, we have a 2 kayaks, a tandem kayak, a SUP, and a canoe available. There are several chaise loungers for relaxing in the sun, and beach chairs to sit down by the water. There is ladder golf and corn hole to play outside as well as sand toys for the kids. Games and puzzles are inside when you're ready to take a break from the beach. When it's time to eat, there is a 6 burner gas grill with 2 side burners to accommodate large groups. Summer 2020 the rising lake level resulted in the loss of 50 feet of dune and the stairs to the beach at the north access area and the stairs will not be rebuilt this year. Use the south access to 2000 feet of shared association Lake Michigan beach. It's about a 20 minute walk from the house or drive and park with the provided parking pass. We were able to walk the entire beach on July 19th. The association beach ends just to the south of the access, if you walk north up the beach there is plenty of space. Thank you. ~Laura ) The cottage interior has an open floor plan and features modern furnishings, tile floors, a cathedral ceiling and a unique beach-stone gas-starter fireplace. The entire west wall of the cottage is windows and glass sliders, overlooking the outdoor living area and Lake Michigan. The modern kitchen features stainless steel appliances, a bar fridge, and a huge island, perfect for family gatherings. There are two bedrooms on the main floor with double beds, and one bathroom with a shower. Upstairs is the master suite with a queen bed, cathedral ceiling and stunning views of Lake Michigan. The master bath features a double shower. Also upstairs is a loft area with two twin futons and a flat-screen smart TV (no TV service). A large deck with plenty of seating provides additional living space and a perfect place for al fresco dining. As a guest in the Little Point Sable Association, you have free access to the outdoor tennis courts, pickle ball courts, a large playground and an 18-hole crolf course (a crude, but fun!, form of golf). Just two miles south are the Little Point Sable Lighthouse and the famous Silver Lake Sand Dunes. This area offers many outdoors activities and attractions: dune buggies, golf, boating, biking and so much more. PLEASE NOTE: As you may know, the water level of Lake Michigan was at an all-time high in 2020. The stairs to the beach washed away last summer leaving a very high, steep bank. It is now considered a critical dune and no stairs or any type of access to the beach can be constructed. There is to be NO climbing up and down the bank as this is not only dangerous to you, but causes further erosion. You do not have access to the small beach below, but the view and cottage are not compromised. You may walk about 1/2-mile to association beach access; or drive 10 minutes to a public beach.

The cottage is in Oceana County, about two miles south of Stony Lake. The cottage is far off the nearest road, with a private sandy beach. The lake bottom is also sandy--no rocks or stones. We have 200 feet of frontage on Lake Michigan, however, lake levels are high. The beach is smaller than in prior years, so we must ask that there be no beach fires. There is a portable fire pit close to the cottage which is perfect for gathering around. The cottage is in a rural area which keeps it quiet. The nearest store is 2 miles away in Stony Lake. (Please note: Cottage is closed for the winter between mid-October and mid-May.)

Thank you. ~Laura ) New to the rental market in 2019, this darling family cottage right on the big lake is situated in the desirable Little Point Sable Association about 2 miles south of the Little Point Sable Lighthouse. On the main level there are 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen, dining area, and a wonderful screened porch that runs the length of the cottage overlooking Lake Michigan. A mini-split AC unit was added to the upstairs living area in the fall of 2020. Downstairs, accessible via a circular stairway inside or an outdoor stairway, are 2 more bedrooms, a powder room, and laundry. Enjoy quality time with your family on the new large patio with a gorgeous view of the lake, on the association tennis courts, pickleball courts, and crolf course, and walking the miles of trails in the nature preserve. The cottage is located between Silver Lake and Stony Lake, just west of Shelby. The famous Silver Lake Sand Dunes are 10 minutes away. This area is known as a wonderful summer playground ... golf, boating, tubing, waterskiing, and more are just minutes away. As you may be aware, Lake Michigan's water level was at a record high in 2020, causing much erosion. We have more beach than last year and access to the water is easy. Currently there is a large sandy area overlooking the lake that is perfect for sunbathing or eating at the picnic table. There is a path down a very small dune to the water. There are a few jettys to contend with, but it's a lot better than many other places in the area.
